VINYL LETTERS & GRAPHIC APPLICATION GUIDE

1) Hinge method for larger letters & decals

Thoroughly clean and degrease the surface that letters or graphic is to be applied.

Position the lettering or logo WITHOUT REMOVING THE BACKING using a piece of Masking at each end. Move the design up or down until in required position.

Make a hinge using two pieces of masking tape perpendicular to the largest dimension of the letters or logo, approx ½ way or no more than 1m away from any one of the edges.

Remove the positioning tape from one end and fold one half of the design on top of the other as far as the hinge tape, leaving the backing paper. Now cut and remove the backing paper using a scissors or sharp knife.

Fold the hinge back making sure that you leave a space between the vinyl and the substrate surface (angle of approx 20°) in order to avoid it sticking too soon.

Squeegee firmly from the centre outwards in overlapping movements (a credit card or similar is ideal for this) . Repeat the same set of actions for the other section of the lettering or logo.

Remove the application tape at a steady speed, at a cleaving angle of between 0 and 30°. Prick any air bubbles trapped between the vinyl and the substrate and squeegee once more.

2) Wet method (large letters & decals) NOT recommended for small letters & graphics. Do not use this method when applying to painted wood/walls!

1. Prepare a solution of soapy water (ratio of one drop of detergent to 2 gallons/10 Litres of water) and put in a spray bottle. 2. Spray the surface of the sign. 3. Remove letters from backing using the application paper a place face down with glue side facing upwards. 4. Wet the adhesive using spray bottle. 5. Place on sign surface, once in place outwards to the left and then the right applying enough pressure to squeeze out any water trapped between the adhesive and the sign surface. 6.Leave for 10 – 30 minutes depending on temperature and size of letters. 7. Carefully remove application paper leaving design in place.

3) Direct method (small letters & decals)

Thoroughly clean & degrease the surface that the decal is to be applied to.
Place the decal face down and carefully remove the backing paper leaving the decal held by the application paper that has been applied over the front.
Place the decal in the desired position and rub down with a dry cloth or squeegee .
Now remove the application paper (see fig 6 above) leaving your chosen design in position.
